Eduen - Putting U in the middle of Eden

Dome it! is actually part of the Eduen Federation - a collection of sustainable companies, technologies, individuals and innovations working together under one umbrella. Eduen - Putting U in the middle of Eden.

The idea is to build experiential, ecological teaching villages around the world. Each village will have some of the same components like dome/gardens and waste mangement facillities, but they will differ depending on which services each location can bare. Eduen has a buffet of alternative health and energy choices to consider when community planning.

Here is the initial vision for the first 33 acre Eduen slated for Gresham, Oregon.

Greetings everyone,

I'm excited to see this new council on Earth Technology. Having worked in the renewable energy area for several years, I've developed some interesting and sometimes controversial insights on wind and solar renewable industries. I thought my comments below might be interesting our online community:

While energy tycoons like T Boone Pickens force the US government to subsidize their money loosing wind farms as a ploy to grab land rights in water and oil rich regions of the US, and the economically distressed semiconductor industry continues to pawn expensive photo-voltaic technologies that cost more to deploy than the energy they create during their short lifespan, Mother Earth has always offered the most practical and economically viable sustainable resource.

GeoThermal energy, specifically geothermal heat pumps are perhaps the most economically sustainable energy technology today. Homeowners, communities and businesses have quietly been using this technology for decades to get free energy from Mother Earth. Unfortunately, drilling holes in the earth does not create recurring revenue for photo-voltaic semiconductor companies or land grab opportunities for wind energy Tycoons, but they have heated and cooled homes and businesses with little hype or media attention for decades.

Thank You, Disha Kowa Entwaanee, for posting "We are all one"! This most important video clearly states our relationship with the earth and our Brother/Sister creatures. It clearly states what's at stake and places the responsibility directly on each one of us.

Book: Merchants of Grain: The Power and Profits of the Five Giant Companies at the Center of the World's Food Supply Author Dan Morgan
Product Description
The first and only book to describe the seven secretive families and five far-flung companies that control the world's food supplies. Little has changed their central role since Morgan's best-selling book first appeared in 1979.

What makes a community a community if not a vegetable garden? More folks are getting back to basics. My yard is nothing but sand and if I plant the ground squirrels have it faster than the rabbits. I've taken to sprouting seeds and beans.
They are sooooooo nutritious. I especially love the nutty taste and texture of Mung Beans. How committed are you to your diet?

Summer past I dug into my community and presented a few classes "Gathering of people in the Morongo Basin around our individual and collective gardens." We began with composting! After all what can our refuge do for us outside of the landfill? A good friend calls the rich humus Black gold. It was a day spent raking weeds then adding horse manure lot of water into a mush and piling it into a heap. Believe me there is a science to making compost for your garden.
Do you recycle/compost your food scraps?

Hi Ya'll
A long time friend who has a sustainble community on the East coast sent this "joke" today. I feel it appropriate in Earth Tech. I hope you don't mind the pun!
love
Carol
A stranger was seated next to a little girl on the airplane when the
stranger turned to her and said, 'Let's talk. I've heard that flights
go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.'

The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and
said to the stranger, 'What would you like to talk about?'

'Oh, I don't know,' said the stranger. 'How about nuclear power?' and
he smiles.

'OK, ' she said. 'That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask
you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same
stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns
out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do
you suppose that is?'

The stranger, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence,
thinks about it and says, 'Hmmm, I have no idea.'

To which the little girl replies, 'Do you really feel qualified to
discuss nuclear power when you don't know shit?

I’ve been interested in Ecovillage as a concept and what characteristics of sustainability would contribute to success of the community. I am using this “Community Sustainability Assessment” from The Global Ecovillage Network to guide my own design and to key important topics for Earth Tech discussions. This assessment suggests the ideal but it is designed to help evaluate where your community is now and point toward goals your community may want to work toward. I hope this is of value to you and I sure would like to hear your thoughts.

Blessings,
