NEHIYAWI – KISKINWAHAMAW(CREE WAYS) For many years people have struggled with the question of what is an Elder.  It is very simple. You don’t have to walk on water to become an Elder.  Once you have your first grandchild the doorway to becoming an Elder opens.  In order to host the most sacred of our ceremonies the Thirst dance (Sundance) you must have grandchildren to pass the teachings on to.  These must be biological grandchildren not foster or adopted ones.  If you do not have grandchildren…See More

Castle??

In Indian country a man's home is not his castle.. it belongs to the women and children.  The men are merely visitors and do not belong in the kitchen or laundry room. Leave the women to do their work... a true warrior does not do women's work.  Ordering a woman around in her home goes against our teachings.  Respect your wife, mothers, sisters and grandmothers, as the home belongs to them; the men's domain is outside the home and they are the providers, protectors and teachers. Walk in harmony with all of creation

Spiritual balance is complete isolation from negative behaviors.  Walking the Sacred Red Road is a good example of avoiding negative behaviours.  The spiritual dimension is the development of wisdom, truth, faith and forgiveness. As with the other aspects of self it is a gift that can lead us on positive path if it is nurtured in a proper manner. The spirit encompasses all the knowledge and understanding which creates the wisdom of the human being; it is the connection to the Creator and the…See More

Natural law

It is the will of the human being to achieve the mind force to the highest potential. There is a connection between the visions of tomorrow and striving for higher potential.  When we make up our mind to do something we are already moving forward; when the mind is in balance with the other gifts the individual will demonstrate complete understanding.  In contemporary society we have learned to feed our minds through an ever expanding technology that makes our lives easier.  Western education…See More

Our roles

A woman carries a lot of power as she can conceive life but she also has the power to destroy life through this power. She must control her sexuality to the limits of her mate and not misunderstand her sexuality, nor should she look beyond her relationship, or she will create her own suffering while jeopardizing her relationship and bringing harm to her children.  Women are teachers they must work hard to bring balance to their families and communities. Today many of our women are trying to…See More

Hi Robert:

I have had the opportunity to present the Medicine Wheel Teachings to the Cree10/20 class in two 80 minute blocks and they thoroughly enjoyed learning about the concepts.  Afterwards (1 week later) I gave them a quizz and all of them were able to label a blank Medicine Wheel and their marks were in the 90% range. I plan on continuing with these teachings in our High School throughout the year.
