My name is Larin Alexis Guenther, I am 26 years old and I currently live in New Westminster, BC. I was born and raised by my mother in Lethbridge Alberta where I attended most of my schooling including University. I graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2004 with a Bachelor in Science, major Neuroscience. I had planned on becoming a dentist, but after writing the DAT (like EMCAT for dental school) and working with a dentist, I realized that it was not a good choice for my future. I was caught up in what seems to be the "Alberta Money Mentality"... the more money I was to make seemed to ensure my happiness. I never really enjoyed any aspect of becoming a dentist except for the money, and when I realized that, my focus changed to my passions.
I am passionate about the environment and our relationship as humans with mother earth. Sustainability issues, pollution and alternative measures, travel, animal and ecosystem aid and preservation, minimizing waste and recycling are areas that I am greatly interested in. I am planning on attending Royal Roads University in January 2010 to increase my knowledge in this area and earn a Masters of Science in Environment and Management. I know that being a member of the DYC has granted me an amazing opportunity to share my ideas, knowledge and concerns with others.
I hope to make a difference in my life, no matter how small or how big. And, most importantly, I believe that everyone is able to achieve that goal, sometimes we just need a little help.
