Avatar Movie Directly Parallels Sacred Tree Story Written 25 Years Ago

The “Tree of Souls” in the film Avatar is the Na’vi “link” to the spiritual and guiding force Eywa. The Na’vi respected and held the Sacred Tree of Souls and understood that without it, their way of life and their world, would die.

In the book, The Sacred Tree, Indigenous values and traditions are taught as a primary key to unlocking the spiritual force of a Sacred Tree that will move us on the path of personal growth and development. Indigenous Elders prophesy that by returning to the life-preserving and life enhancing spiritual values of the Sacred Tree, Indigenous Peoples and the Human Family will be awakened and transformed.

This transformation will have a healing effect on all of Mother Earth.

The Sacred Tree is now being shared for the first time with all members of the Human Family desiring further spiritual understanding and personal growth. Please enjoy this excerpt from the Sacred Tree.

The Story of the Sacred Tree

“For all the people of the earth, the Creator has planted a Sacred Tree under which they may gather, and there find healing, power, wisdom and security. The roots of this tree spread deep into the body of Mother Earth. Its branches reach upward like hands praying to Father Sky. The fruits of this tree are the good things the Creator has given to the people: Teachings that show the path to love, compassion, generosity, patience, wisdom, justice, courage, respect, humility and many other wonderful gifts.

The Ancient Ones taught us that the life of the Tree is the life of the people. If the people wander far away from the protective shadow of the Tree, if they forget to seek the nourishment of its fruit or they should turn against the Tree and attempt to destroy it, great sorrow will fall upon the people. Many will become sick at heart. The people will lose their power. They will cease to dream dreams and see visions. They will begin to quarrel among themselves over worthless trifles. They will become unable to tell the truth and to deal with each other honestly. They will forget how to survive in their own land. Their lives will become filled with anger and gloom. Little by little, they will poison themselves and all they touch.

It was foretold that these things would come to pass, but that the Tree would never die. And as long as the Tree lives, the people live. It was also foretold that the day would come when the people would awaken, as if from a long, drugged sleep; that they would begin, timidly at first but then with great urgency, to search again for the Sacred Tree.

The knowledge of its whereabouts and of the fruits that adorn its branches have always been carefully guarded and preserved within the minds and hearts of our wise elders and leaders. These humble, loving and dedicated souls will guide anyone who is honestly and sincerely seeking along the path leading to the protecting shadow of the Sacred Tree."

Isn't the tree of life, the same one we carry within us all? The fruits of that tree that we are supposed to use for subsidence should be truth, integrity, kindness and compassion amongst others. The prophesies as I understand them refer back to a time when our personal vibrations were higher, when we were kind and compassionate to all living things and not just to the human kind. When we loose the lower vibrations of greed, jealously, anger, resentment and others won't that in turn raise our higher vibrations so we can continue to benefit from the fruits of the tree of life?

I always enjoy the story and was greatly moved by the movie Avatar because of the strong parallels and symbolism related to The Sacred Tree or as numerous Indigenous and other heritages represent in their storytelling and history, The Tree of Life. Thank you again for sharing and helping us all to remember.

Dear Phil, I still have the book "The Sacred Tree" you gave me in the early '80s' when I started university! I used it in teaching traditional teachings to my students both in elementary and university classes. I treasure it. Much thanks!

I had a green dance shawl that lay empty without any design on it for several years, but I knew that something should go on it. It came to me that a design of The Sacred Tree should go on the shawl. I knew that in the spiritual beliefs of all the tribes of our earth, there were teachings about The Sacred Tree and that it is a unifying symbol to us all. I asked a friend what did his people's teachings say about The Sacred Tree. He was silent for a moment and then said The Sundance. One year later after talking to the friend I brought out the shawl at a powwow. It was drawn by my artistic granddaughter who intuitively gave it seven branches and seven roots that spread over the edge of the shawl. Birds and monarch butterflies who have entered my life now inhabit the tree with a story for each one. Since the message came to me to place this on the shawl, several books came to me including your book Phil. Another is one my daughter found, Myths of the Sacred Tree by Moyra Caldecott. The study of the sacred tree is an amazing journey. Thank you for bringing this book to being.

Thank you brother Phil! The sacred tree was the first thing I was given in my search for my spirituality. It has truly guided me to its treasures.

Thank you Phil Lane, for bringing the knowledge forward on recognizing this as a story which is one that has been told by our ancestors throughout time. This is not a Hollywood story but one of the People. Blessings.

Dear Brother Phil,
I wouldn't be surprised if J. Cameron read the book and based the movie on it. Let's extend our hearts towards him and perhaps he will return to this field with us at the Fourth Way in the Four Worlds. The grandmothers are dreaming and the rainbows are filling the void.

Thank you for posting this. I enjoyed the movie Avatar and felt it had a message that could wake up human beings about the destruction of planet Earth. It is good to know that a key theme in the movie, the sacred tree, came from an indigenous propehcy.

My intense gratitude for sharing this ancient wisdom of the Sacred Tree. I can feel the inspiration and energy already just by reading this short message. How much we need these Fruits of this Tree at this moment in time on Planet Earth. I hope many many people will find their way to this Sacred Tree and may everyone experience the complete Oneness with All. I am gonna check out where to find the book in the Netehrlands!
