VISION/MISSION

Our mission is to develop a digital youth council that generates a community of dedicated young people from across the world, who share a responsibility for a common vision of hope in creating a world capable of change, that feel a part of a movement they themselves can mobilize, and eliminates the feeling of isolation and resignation by providing the members with an open healing digital space to share their cultures, individualities, and gifts.

Osiyo, relatives! I have a movie that I recommend watching. It is called "The Beautiful Truth". I have to watch it myself, but I do recommend watching it.

Sincerely, with love,

Beloved relatives,
I found this website, http://www.survivalinternational.org/, ; which seems to address very serious issues facing our indigenous relatives and all the different ways we can help as individuals and organizations....only one being the donation of money. If you are like me you may not have financial resources to save the world let alone take care of personal necessities. Read "Walk Your Talk" as it shows all the different ways we can help our relatives out beyond just giving money...get active...your choice...Members asked me how to get involved, even with restricted finances, so this is what I found. I hope it gives us ways to take action along with our ongoing sincerest prayers for all our relatives.
Click below or visit the website above for information on how to get actively involved in a good way that fits into your life. Hope and love, Firewoman

Hi Deloria. As you know, we have many hours of footage that could have wide-ranging applications in the digital realm. One of our objectives is to implement a model called Participatory Video. This model empowers the people whose stories are being told, to tell their own stories.

Our filmmaking, photography, writing and other skills are only used to facilitate the endeavors of participants. I am very willing to work more in this area if the need arises.

Biography

My name is Deloria Many Grey Horses and I come from the Blackfoot, Dakota, and Chickasaw Nations. I grew up near my mothers reserve on the Canadian-American boarder in Lethbridge, Alberta Canada. My mother went to pursue her education and my father raised me by himself with the help of relatives since I was five years old. Since I was a little girl I attended ceremonies and powwows and was brought up in a very traditional Dakota family. I was taught to honor and respect the teaching of my ancestors and always remember where I came from. One of the greatest teachings my Lala (grandfather) shared with me, is “the longest journey in life is from your head to your heart.” When I was a little girl I use to try and touch my head to my heart to show my Lala I had made this long journey at the early age of four but as I have grown older I have come to understand the complexity of this teaching and try and find balance in every aspect of my life. When I was fifteen years old I was offered a full scholarship to attend one of the top private boarding schools in the nation and made my way down to Ojai, California located 45 minutes from Santa Barbara. This was a very big culture shock for me but I loved it because it gave me a strong academic foundation that later provided me with the tools I needed to graduated U.C. Berkeley.

I double majored in Ethnic Studies and Native American studies with an emphasis on film and media my last two years. Currently I am working with my father and boyfriend internationally with young people on Human Rights issues. We help set up social networks that allow young people to voice their opinions and share their cultures with other Indigenous youth in their region. In the fall of 2008 I had a vision of creating a digital council of young talented youth between the ages of 15-35 to create a more sustainable and just community. It has taken months to truly manifest this vision but with the help of 8 dedicated young people we are beginning to make this vision a reality.

We are opening up a door to show people something new and different. I think as you get older you forget to take things as they come and we want to help young people explore their talents in every field.

Questions

What are you deeply passionate about?

I have a great passion and compassion for human beings. I believe that every person has a talent and my dream and goal is to help people manifest their talents. Also, I love my culture and want to promote it anyway I can. I feel that many young people these days are not given the chance or opportunity to fully develop themselves and I want to help them do so. Also, my culture has been a huge inspiration in my life and I want to remind my Indigenous brothers and sisters to hold onto their culture and celebrate it. I also have a great passion for film. I feel that film is a great tool for learning and we need to take advantage of using it. It is way for us to tell our story and share it with the world.

How can DYC manifest that passion?

The DYC is a great platform to connect with other young people in the world and place where they can display their talents. Also, a place where young people can connect with other young people that are interested in their area of study. One of the main tools the DYC will promote is participatory media which includes film. In today´s world technology allows all of us to be a filmmaker without having to spend a fortune. I think the DYC can help young people interested in film find internships and begin exploring this field.

What can we make DYC the best at?

We can make the DYC the best at helping young people succeed and find their passion in life. Instead of young people going on the Internet to play destructive games the DYC can provide a more productive option that will help them succeed in life and empower them. It will help remind us to live in balance in life and not focus so much on superficial things! Most importantly it will provide a space for young people to connect and find other people who share their same passions and be able to create a more just and sustainable world where people care about one another.

I have a few tips on how to stop the swine flu and other kinds of flu.
1. Wash your hands often or use a hand sanitizer.
2. Try to stay away from coughing or sneezing people.
3. When you buy something from a store, wipe those things down with a disinfecting wipe.
That would help prevent illnesses from starting and reduce spreading, like the swine flu. Have a good day!
