What Is Most Important Spiritually? The Past, Present or Future?

Dear Relatives,

This is a statement of my grandmother Ella Deloria, regarding history, which is well worth contemplating.

"We can never be sure of what actually took place.  And it doesn't really matter, does it?  All that which lies hidden in the remote past is interesting, to be sure, but not so important as the present and the future.  The vital concern is not where a People or a person came from, physically, but where they are going, spiritually." ~Ella Deloria, Ihanktonwan Dakota

Grandmother Ella was a student, along with Margaret Mead and others, of Dr. Franz Boaz, at Columbia University. Dr Boaz is called the “Father of Modern Anthropology”.

With Warm Love and Greetings,

Brother, Uncle and Grandfather Phil Lane Jr., Ihanktonwan Dakota and Chickasaw Nations

I love that!  Not where we have been, but where we are going spiritually - what a beautiful way to start my day. Mx

"I am a part of all I have met."-Tennyson- What we build today becomes tomorrow's past. Without a knowledge of the the past, we are adrift in the present, at the mercy of the most powerful winds, and the most powerful, loudest winds are often those of money, power, and privilege. To navigate we need the rudder of the past.

I do agree, but sometimes people carry the past with them and only by looking back, inderstanding and forgiving themselves or others can they heal and move on to live in the present as a whole being.
