How can we incorporate the medicine wheel to help us create a more sustainable and balanced community?

Greeting my dear friends and relatives!

I have been working with a group of young activist from all different walks of life to brainstorm different ideas on how to create a sustainable and just community. I would love to hear the thoughts from our FWII community on how you feel the Medicine Wheel can be used to create a more sustainable and balanced community.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Medicine Wheel it is one of the ancient symbols used by Indigenous peoples throughout North America to express the inter-relationship of all living things; the four grandfathers, the four winds, the four cardinal directions, the four elements, fire, water, earth, and air the four stages of life, the four beings of the heavens - the sun, the moon, the clouds, and the stars, the Four Seasons, the four potentialities of human growth and development, the four dimensions of the plant - the roots, the stem, the leaves and the fruit, as well as, many other relationships of quaternity. For the purpose of our project we are focusing on the four potentialities of human growth and development. This includes, the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of life. In the center is our volition and in order for an individual or community to grow you must develop all four aspects.

Please share your thoughts!

Deloria, my dear relative,
My first thoughts are this:
physical- eat right, exercise atleast three times a week, carefully examine what it put into our bodies-medicine, supplements etc, eliminate toxin intake-cigarettes, alcohol, drugs etc.
emotional-find and keep healthy relationships with friends and family, find a creative outlet like music, writing, art.
mental - attend counseling and set up solid support systems for personal growth and healing
spiritual - figure out what you believe in and find others who share in these beliefs, keep an open mind that all beings are spiritual, spiritual does not mean religion, and many cultures share in parallel ideals regarding spiritualism.
Just a start so I will keep thinking on this. Hope and love, Firewoman
