Why I am here...

Most recently I was employed as a Case Manager (Social Worker) in the State of Florida. In this position I verified child safety for children in the Dependency System and facilitated services where child abuse, abandonment or neglect had occurred.

Abuse is in part the unfair, sadistic, or vicious treatment of a person or animal. Power, knowledge, alcohol, drugs, trust among other things can all be abused. Animals, children, our earth, the elderly, men, women - essentially anyone/thing in a vulnerable position can be subjected to abuse. Emotional and physical are generally abuses we think of first and as a Case Manager I saw that and much more.

It is my intention to utilise the Digital Youth Council as a means to shed light on the many abuses that often remain hidden, lurking in the shadows of our homes, communities, societies, countries and the world. Exposure is the one thing abuse cannot escape. Once acknowledged something can be done. No longer does the abuse hold power. My goal is to highlight abuse, put it on display in its ugliness so we can see it, examine it, learn to recognize it and take action against it. By ignoring abuse we encourage and inadvertently engage in it. We have to acknowledge its presence and the ugly part of human nature that allows us to potentially become an abuser.

- I hope to offer a space where it is safe to discuss the cruel and unimaginable nature of abuse.
- Provide resources, information and tools for the abuser and abused to receive help.

This is a large undertaking, I know. It is one I do not take lightly. It is my belief that by illuminating the dark crevices where abuse resides we can overtake it and offer help to those caught in this vicious cycle that left unchecked will continue.

My dear friend Keri, my sons and I, being domestic violence survivors, support your honorable and courageous efforts to bring a voice to those who need one but are most often afraid to use it or have not found it yet. It took me 13 years to find my strength and voice. When my children became the target I laid my life down for them against our abuser. Even today he attempts to abuse us through different ways other than physical.I will always have to watch over my shoulder. We refuse to be abused! We are here on FWII to continue the healing process with our friends and family and be a light for others who need to see that YES, we can stop the cycle. Let me know if there is anything I can help with. Hope and love, Firewoman
