Information

Walking the Red Road

The Red Road is a long winding road that began in the stars, spilled onto the mountain tops, was carried in the snow to the streams, to the rivers, to the ocean. It covers the whole world, and keeps winding around the Indigenous.

Walking The Red Road

I walk the red road by first asking permission of the First People of Turtle Island where ever I maybe. I love the earth and I am listening to the wisdom of the elders.

Important topic that affects many people. It is a terrible thing for a child to have their trust broken like that.
It is possible to break the cycle.
I don't think it is easy for men or women to talk about it.
A long time ago decided that the Sky was my Father and The Earth was my Mother. This has helped me to some degree.
This allowed me to see people as people. Just imperfect people.
Somehow forgiveness comes in when this is done.
We are more than the sum of our experiences. We all deserve to be whole people.

Hi Ilene and Lonny! Blessings of Love and Healing to you and all in this group! I think all suggested is wise, to open up the space for healing from the sexual abuse and any other abuse with intention, just like in Sacred Ceremony. Talking about the incidents of abuse is what heals and prevents PTSD, especially when released from the body memory in some type of therapy that includes sacred touch. This could be yoga, energy work, massage, circular breathing, or Hakomi body centered psychotherapy! Sometimes these traumatic incidences are released in meditation spontaneously. I have utilized all of the above practices for my own healing from sexual abuse and it was a journey well worth it. I will hold Intention and Healing Space for this Issue! With Love and Hope, Susan

Lonny; The issue of sexual abuse is one that carries a stigma and as you may know; men experience much oppression starting from a young age. One is "Be a man" and to talk about ones feelings is not considered "Being a man." An all men's workshop where one can feel safe about sharing one's feelings helps to break this internalized generational pattern. If a Sacred Healing Men's group can provide this type of safe place, where all men can listen and exchange information about how they have been oppressed from the earliest memory up to the present, and to share all the highlights of thier childhood is important too. This type of work takes dedication and commitment. The information of sexual abuse may come up and a discussion of how this issue has effected our men will began and the process of healing may begin. As this is a very difficult area to talk about, the group needs to have a experienced group leader to keep everyone in the group from sinking to deep; therefore, causing much depression or PTSD as you described. An experienced group leader would be a surviving sexual abused man who has already healed, or has many years of experience in the field. This is just one way of how I have learned on how men are able to address the fear, anger, sadness and grief. Blessings to you, Elder Confederated Tribes of Siletz.

I know that this is a hard subject but I have been told by many elders during my research to bring attention to the PTSD that has been handed down generationally because of the boarding schools and genocide practices that Native Americans still carry to this day because of it. I was honored to be able to take part in a talking circle about the issue of boarding school traumas last week, and a subject that many men it is said dont want to face and talk about, that being the sexual abuse faced by men. Women can talk about it, and by doing so can start to heal from it, but with men its a different story, they feel ashamed, they feel less of a man and wont talk about what has been said to be a big problem in many communities. It is said that the abused many times become the abusers, and this abuse is still happening today. what does anyone here in this group think would be a good way to break the cycle of silence and thereby break the cycle of abuse of our boys because of it?

I would like to share a story close to my heart. I am an elder, empowered Elder Indian woman, who's blood line includes tribes from 4 directions. I am a product of the Boarding School era. This morning a member of my fostered children (he's in his twenties now) sent me an E-mail, explaining that he has relapsed. My heart sunk to a bottomless pit; as his father took his Sacred Journey from alcohol abuse. I lit my sweetgrass and prayed and cried and prayed and lost the ability to think clearly. My heart hurt and I worry, so I handed my pain to the Creator; asking for guidence. I am grateful my son has reached out to me and has shared his pain with me. He knows I love him with no conditions. I sent him my wisdom and directions and guidence and most importantly my luv and prayers. You know, life is a never ending time of lessons. Lifes lessons are earning your badge of wisdom. I eccept that, what would life be, if it had no problems to solve? My son knows he is loved, if his struggle gets to overwhelming, I will send my other son's to drive up North and get him. We can pick him up and dust him off and visit the Sweat and start over, one step at a time. I refuse to give in, this I teach my children and grandchildren. Don't give up to lifes challenges, they are lessons, don't let your power go to the dark side, ask for help, be proud and strong and teachers for the generations that follow. Just think how boreing life would be if we had nothing to solve. Human nature is so much fun and full of awards. Earn your wisdom and give thanks for each and every lesson. A-ho, All My Relations.
