The Four Worlds International Institute

This is attributed to the Chiefs of Indians of the Six Nations at Lancaster, PA., in response to an offer from the commissioners of Md. & Va. to educate 12 young Indian men at William & Mary College. June 17. 1744:

"We know that you esteemed highly the kind of learning taught in those Colleges, and that the Maintainane of our young Men while with you, would be very expensive to you. We are onvinced that you mean to do us Good by your Proposal; and we thank you heartily. But you who are wise, must know that different Nations have different Conceptions of things and you will therefore not take it amiss, if our ideas of this kind of Education happen not to be the same as yours. We have had some Experience of it. Several of our young people were formerly brought up at the Colleges of the Northern Provinces; they were instructed in all your Sciences; but, when they came back to us, they were bad Runners; ignorant of every living thing in the woods ... neither fit for Hunters, Warriors, nor Counsellors, they were totally good for nothing.

We are, however, not the less obliged by your kind offer, though we decline in accepting it; and, to shw our grateful Sense of it, if the Gentlemen of Virginia will send us a Dozen of their Sons, we will take Care of their Education, instruct them in all we know, and make Men of them."

I believe this comes from J.A. Williams, A West Virginia History

Sorry about the typos!
It is too bad that the Gentleman from Virginia did not send 12 of their sons and or daughters to be instructed. I think things might have been better for everyone if they had.
I sometimes imagine what a wonder full world this could be now if the early European explorers would have come with open hands instead of a sword. Yet here we are, at this time in The History of it All and how could it not be The Creators Plan? Kalil Gibran, the Lebanese poet wrote of Love that "...Even as he is for your growth so is he for our pruning". I think we've entered a time of pruning and that it's time to trust in The Wise Gardener. to be the healthy branch. to produce the good fruit and seed. This is what these times make me think of.

This is a nice sentiment. I do not however care for The Lebanese Prophet. I don't know anything about the man.

Except that he is popular at weddings.

I think there is danger in assuming what God's plan is. Some how in saying it is God's plan we remove responsibility from ourselves.

I am not happy with the way Indigenous people have been treated. I am not happy with the way I have been treated in this life and I refuse to think any of that is God's handiwork. I think it is the work of Men and Men alone.

God is much bigger than that. God loves all of his children regardless of their ethnicity or hardheadedness.

And it must take more than LOVE because I have always walked with love in my heart and even though I at this point would rather not I imagine I always will.

And if you want my copy o f The Lebanese Poet I'd be happy to forward it to you.
