The Four Worlds International Institute

The idea of mentoring is not new in fact it is one of the oldest arrangements for learning. In times past the elders passed on their knowledge and experience to the younger members of a family or village. They would provide guidance as the youth developed their skills and gained the experience they needed to succeed. Now though that relationship has been largely lost as families have been torn apart by the stresses and demands of an out of balance world. People have come to think that knowledge and wisdom comes only from books and elders have so little real contact with youth that they believe they have nothing to offer in a world that is so tech heavy. The elders could gain much from the youth as well not to mention enhanced self esteem. Actually both the youth and the elders come out on the loosing end and the natural balance within society is in need of restoration. There are those among us who have had experiences that could add to the success of the youth in their endeavors but I think there needs to be some way to assist people to make those connections. Mentoring has traditionally been face-to-face but in this age of technology it isn’t impossible to do across continents and could even allow disabled people with mobility issues to participate. I think something like this could have tremendous healing effect and add momentum to our forward movement. I’d love to know what you think of this idea and maybe you would like to help me develop it into something useful.
I have attached a Mentoring Guide used by NASA to help explain what mentoring looks like.
