On evening of June 18th 2010 we will be having the all night Sun Dance Singing and on June 19th 2010 we will put up the Sun Dance arbor and start dancing. It will go till June 22nd this event has been going on now for many years. In the 1840s the natives in this area got a message that the Great Spirit was walking the earth again and they buryed and burn all of their religious object. They waited to see what the Great Spirit wanted and when nothing happened they picked up their religion again. In the 1850s this happened again and when nothing happened they picked up their religion again. In the 1860s the Ogimauh of this Dance Many Eagle Sits, had a vision of unity and so he call all the people in the area to come and be at this annual Dance. In 1862 there was over 1000 dancers. 5 tribes were there the Ojibwa, Cree, Assiniboine, Michif, and we know of at least one person that was of the White Nation. There is a story how this started at Buffalo Lodge and also the Sundance Story. Just a little history about this dance. Its about 7 miles north of Dunseith North Dakota and about 1 mile west. There will be a red flag on the main road.
