Indigenous Relatives Escaping Burma

The Democratic Buddhist Army (DKBA), which has maintained a ceasefire with the Burmese army since 1994, have launched an offensive against the Karen resistance, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).
Since the attacks by the Burmese army and the DKBA on the KNLA in June, some 4,000 villagers from the northern Karen state have fled to the Thai-Burmese border.
January 2010:
3,000 of the Karen refugees still live in the temporary camps at the in the
Tha Song Yang district, Thailand.
The people are under pressure of Thai authorities to return back to their country.
There is major concern for their return because eastern Burma is heavily mined, there are ongoing conflicts in the area, food shortage, they fear the threat of forced labor and forced recruitment for the Burmese army.
