An Amazing Experience setting up social networks in the Philippines...

Thursday Nov 26, 2009

As I write this I can hear the roosters communicating from across the village. I hear dogs cheering each other on as they welcome in the new morning and young children laughing as they walk to school. The air smells crisp with a slight sent of pine. These are all characteristics of Kin-iway, Besao. Francisco and I have been blessed with yet another great adventure here in the Cordillera Mountain Range of the Philippines.

We are currently visiting the hometown of our dear… Continue

Indigenous Knowledge- A Time of Recognition

A Time of Recognition…

I have been in Venezuela for almost two weeks and everywhere I look I see people that look like my Native relatives back home. I remember when I was little my father use to tell me the only different between the Indigenous people in the North vs. the Indigenous people of the South is that the people who colonized us spoke English and the people who colonized the Indigenous in the South spoke Spanish. I can’t tell you how true this statement really is.

Franco, my beloved… Continue

How can we incorporate the medicine wheel to help us create a more sustainable and balanced community?

Greeting my dear friends and relatives!

I have been working with a group of young activist from all different walks of life to brainstorm different ideas on how to create a sustainable and just community. I would love to hear the thoughts from our FWII community on how you feel the Medicine Wheel can be used to create a more sustainable and balanced community.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Medicine Wheel it is one of the ancient symbols used by Indigenous peoples throughout No… Continue

Hello D., good to see you are starting to get this off the ground. Thought I'd tell you that with the comming of the school season once again, I think it would be great if our students from Park Rose High School's Native Culture Class could hook up with students in this digital youth council like one day out of the month. We only have class on wednesday's so it's limited unless I can convince the school how important this can be for our students. We will be up and running in september with alot of other things to work on but I think this will go over well with staff and students alike. We might even be able to work it into our new A.I.M. Youth Council too. Get with me sister and let's do our kids a favor. Nikoda Michael Oneroad

Hey~
Life is inspirational. I just returned from Vision Quest camp. We put 6 Sun Dancers up on the hill. Tending Fire for them was an Honor. I look forward to hearing more about the digital youth council. Our dance is in it's 2nd year. Charles Fast Horse, intercessor, is welcoming any Sun Dancer to join us in Taylorsville CA. Dates:August 7-16; Tree Day is the 11th. I personally invite you to join us. And bring your friends. ~G

Aho tanksitku ; It was waste to here back from you Deloriamgh. I'm kinda busy getting ready to go to Uncle Leonard's dance at Rosebud but I will take the time to keep in touch as much as I can before I go. Here's something for you, my mom grew up at Yankton so you might ask if they remember Dorothy Nancy Oneroad ( She is Dorothy Ackerman now) I try to live my life close to these old ways and pass them down to our younger relations as much as possible. I'm now Sgt. of Arms of our portland chapter and wev'e started a culture class at one of the High Schools here. I thought it was important to share what we know with them so they will be better leaders in our futures. You mentioned a program for your youth but I don't understand what you mean by Digital youth? I'm really not computer savy so I'm just trying to learn your terms. Tell me more about it so I can better understand as sometimes I feel like dense or something. So write me back and who knows, maybe I know someone that can help in your area. Much love and prayers, Toksha Ake, Michael Oneroad
